Mt. Pleasant was organized some time in the year 1856. The church owned no land at the time, but a log church was built on property owned by Washington and Tabitha Helton, which at that time was part of Columbia County.
On February 12, 1878, the Helton's sold 4 acres to Mt. Pleasant. Beginning in 1890, a new frame church was built. In 1896, an additional 4 acres was deeded to the church. For a period of time, the church doors were closed and all the windows were stolen out of the church in early 1940.
On June 3, 1958, the footing was poured for a new sanctuary and was completed in 1960. The first service was held in the new church on May 30, 1960.
On May 23, 1964, the footing was poured for the kitchen, Sunday school rooms, and restrooms which were completed in January of 1966.
On November 12, 1964, Cecil Vernon Dague donated a portion of land across the road (CR 10A) from the church for the purpose of building a pastorium. On July 10, 1967, the footing was poured for the pastorium which was completed in October of 1970. On June 16, 1972, additional land adjoining the pastorium was sold to the church.
In the mid 1970's, an additional 6 Sunday school rooms were built.
In 1977, the church flourished. The construction of a new fellowship hall and additional Sunday school rooms were completed in 1982.
The church received 19 new members in 1966, and the outside of the church sanctuary, the Sunday school rooms, the kitchen, and the fellowship hall were all completely painted.
In 1999, the church renovated and redecorated the pastorium for the pastor and his family. The church also upgraded the electrical wiring system in the sanctuary and the fellowship hall. In addition, the floor covering in the fellowship hall was replaced with tile.
Bob Hazel was called to be our pastor in October of 2001. We are looking forward to great things happening at Mt. Pleasant under Pastor Hazel's leadership through God's Divine Guidance.
